International Student Mission (ISM) and its missionaries, Jim and Naomi Kautt, perform Christian outreach ministry, evangelism, and teaching to international students studying in Tuebingen, Germany. They also reach out to German natives in a local church congregation, the Christliche Gemeinde (International Christian Church) of Tuebingen.
Tuebingen is an enchanting university city of 87,000 inhabitants with 22,000 students, about 3,400 of whom are international students. The university is an old, established institution founded in 1477 and has a world-renowned reputation for academic excellence. Moreover, tuition at German universities is free; so many foreign students like to study there. Many of the students have never heard the Gospel of Christ. ISM reaches out to them as well as to German natives with little church background.
A little background on Jim and Naomi: Jim is from Texas and Naomi is from Japan. They met in Tuebingen in 1999 in the International Students’ Bible Study group, which they now assist in leading. At the time, Jim had finished his studies in theology and was beginning his doctorate at the University of Tuebingen. Naomi was doing additional voice studies at the College of Church Music in Tuebingen. Jim has been working as a pastor missionary since June 1999. After their marriage at the end of 2000, Naomi joined Jim in his ministry.
